Orchiata #5A Power + is an all around "medium" grade orchid fir bark potting medium with pieces roughly 3/4" (12-18mm) in size. It's from Pinus radiata grown in New Zealand and is a superior medium for many orchids. I use it for dendrobium, cattleya, encyclia, and epidendrum. Orchiata is very long lasting and does not break down quickly like traditional sequoia fir bark can. It also needs no pre-wetting or mixing with other ingredients to use. Straight from the bag to the pot.

Stop using ANY bark other than Orchiata!

Roots REALLY LOVE THIS STUFF! I thought my new roots tips were dying the second they hit Better-Gro bark because of something I was doing. I even boiled and soaked the Better-Gro in Physan20 and it didn't help. So I thought it was just me.
It turns out that Better-Gro is just garbage and using it is "orchid negligence" lol.
This solved ALL MY PROBLEMS!

Side note: If you can't decide what size of Orchiata bark to use, go with the slightly bigger size unless you need all of it. Even the biggest size still has some smaller chips in it. If you only need a small amount of smaller chips, there will probably be plenty in the bigger size bark bag.

Perfect Bark size

I love this medium for my orchids. The size and shape is perfect for repotting. No jagged big and small pieces like you get with other commercial bark. Also, the bark has been pre soaked, so no need to do so before you can repot. My orchids thrive in this mix.

Orchiata bark is so much better that standard fir bark in that it last much longer before decaying. I can't wait to begin my spring repotting.
